Zerode are well known for their innovative design and their use of gearboxes on DH mountain bikes, however, they have created something really special with the Taniwha; A gearbox driven, full carbon enduro bike with 160mm of travel and modern geometry.

The Taniwha (MaÃÑori pronunciation: [tanifa]) makes use of the revolutionary pinion gearbox bolted neatly to the underside of the full carbon frame, getting rid of those derailleur gears that can sometimes be such a pain to use and maintain. The Pinion C.12 gearbox is way beyond anything seen before within mountain bike drivetrains offering immediate, faultless gear changes even whilst freewheeling and offering a significant weight saving over the previous P.12 gearbox.

The lack of derailleur and cassette on the Taniwha significantly reduces suspension resistance and unsprung weight, meaning Zerode have been able to improve suspension performance considerably over derailleur equipped bikes.

With a lack of rear cassette, the hub flanges can be made wider enabling a zero dish symmetrical rear wheel for extra stiffness and strength.

Due to the gear indexing being carried out at the gearbox itself, there is no need for constant gear tweaking and adjusting. Servicing and maintenance are also minimal with the fixed chain line offering longer chain and sprocket life. Pinion gearbox oil changes are recommended annually or every 10,000KM.

The new Taniwha gets updated geometry including a 65-degree head angle, 74.5-degree seat tube angle, and a roomy cockpit (445mm reach - size Medium, 475mm reach – size Large) meeting all the demands of the modern rider and making this bike a serious All-Mountain/Enduro slayer.
